Laparoscopy/Thoracoscopy

Equine labaroscopy is becoming more and more important. The minimally invasive procedure offers many advantages in abdominal surgery which are not possible with conventional open surgery techniques.

In relation to a variety of indications, laparoscopy opens up the option to operate on the standing horse. This minimises the OP risk, as no general anaestethic need be administered. Most endoscopic operations in the abdomen can be performed under local anaesthetic.

Other advantages over the traditional method of abdominal surgery on horses are:

Intra-operative:
- better access
- improved visibility
- optimisation of individual interventions

Post-operative:
-
shorter hospital stay
- fast convalescence
- reduced morbidity

The following indications can be performed laparoscopically on the standing horse:

• Ovarectomy
• Cryptorchidectomy
• Closure of the spleen / kidney area
• Herniorraphy
• Nephrectomy

Other indications for horse laparoscopy:
• Tissue biopsy from organs
• Neoplasia
• Castration

Thoracoscopical surgeries such as pleuropneumonia can also be done on the standing horse.  Our instruments furthermore allows treating adhesions.

For thoracoscopy the laparoscopy instruments are used, too.
