Removal of Biopsies in Neurosurgery

FRAMELESS Ein System zur Stereotaxierahmenlosen Biopsie-Entnahme von Richard Wolf
FRAMELESS A System for Stereotactic Frameless Removal of Biopsies from Richard Wolf

Nowadays, biopsies are taken from patients suffering from diseases involving
tumors or cysts before surgery is carried out. Taking a biopsy allows the stage
reached by the tumor to be defined in advance of an operation and additional
measures can be introduced if possible.
Up to now, biopsies have been taken from the head using a stereotactic
frame. This procedure is very uncomfortable for patients and is extremely time
consuming for the surgeon and operating personnel.

The new FRAMELESS instrument set for frameless stereotactic removal of biopsies will enable biopsies to be carried out in future without stereotactic frames. The only prerequisite for this is the availability of a neurosurgical navigation system and these systems are standard in nearly all neurosurgical hospitals across Europe. The new FRAMELESS Biopsy System allows tumors and other lesions in the head to be precisely targeted and tissue samples taken using cannulas and various forceps.
Furthermore, there is a possibility of introducing a tube directly after the biopsy
using a special catheter guide for drainage or administering drugs to the patient, for example chemotherapeutic agents or other drugs.
