“Take apart” stop cocks

The great demand for “take apart” stop cocks prompted us to completely redesign our stop cocks. The new design enabled us to optimise both the reprocessing and functionality as well as the ease of maintenance.

Why alkaline reprocessing?

At least since the outbreak of vCJD (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) in Europe, alkaline cleaning processes have come to the forefront. This type of reprocessing is preferred and used in many countries due to the verifiably better solubility of proteins, prions and fats compared with neutral cleaning processes.
However, chrome-plated items can only be alkali-processed to a limited extent. The chromium plate itself is alkali-resistant, but – under unfavourable conditions – signs of wear and damage could lead to a loss or deterioration of the protective chromium plating. Stainless steel and many plastics are, however, highly alkali-resistant.

Why “take apart”?

“Take apart” construction is always preferred in situations where there is direct or
indirect patient contact, such as, for example, for the sliding surfaces of the stop
cocks. This will allow access for a controlled cleaning process to these otherwise
protected surfaces

Animation for dismantling and reassembly

The dismantling of the stop cock is very simple – the stop cock insert is simply pulled out of the stop cock housing. The reassembly is just as easy – with a simple “Click” the stop cock insert snaps into the stop cock housing.

With the animation you can dismantle and reassemble the stop cocks by your self. Simply follow the instructions of the "Avatar".

Advantages at one glance:

  • Easy to dismantle and reassemble
  • Maintenance-free – requires no lubrication or greasing
  • Unlimited machine reprocessing possible
  • Sterilisable by all common methods

Why maintenance-free?

Less use of maintenance products means better control of the hygienic condition. Oil and grease hamper the sterilisability of the instruments. For this reason, they should only be applied if no other alternatives are available, e.g., on joints of forceps and scissors. Naturally, the new stop cock design is maintenance-free, just as the previous model. This is a significant advantage over the stop cocks of our competitors, which have to be lubricated in order to ensure they don’t leak and move smoothly.

Description and advantages

The new stop cock housing is made of stainless steel and the stop cock insert is
manufactured from wear-resistant, purpose-designed plastic. The special properties of this plastic material ensures it doesn’t leak and operates smoothly – even without lubrication. It goes without saying that both parts are alkali-resistant.
The fact that only the stop cock insert has to be removed is a major advantage compared to other “take apart” stop cocks of the competitors, where an additional fixing cap has to be removed.
