Richard Wolf presents new generation morcellators

Knittlingen in September 2009 – Powered morcellators have a long track record of application in gynecological laparoscopy. However, new treatment methods for myomas located in the organ wall (intramural) and particularly the introduction of laparoscopic, supracervical removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) require new more advanced systems.
Richard Wolf – one of the world’s leading suppliers of endoscopes and endoscopic systems – presents Morce Power Plus, a new-generation instrument. The micromotor deploying Brushless Motor Technology is an outstanding feature. This setup means that the morcellator is currently the most compact and lightweight re-usable morcellator on the market. These features facilitate easy handling of the instrument.
The Morce Power Plus also features a large number of safety functions. The "CUT or NO CUT Function" significantly enhances instrument safety. Before the morcellator is introduced into the abdomen, the cutting surface is retracted manually into the trocar tube. This prevents injury to tissue and organs. Simply rotating the trocar sleeve advances the cutting surface again.
A special nose located at the distal end of the trocar tube protects underlying tissue during the cutting procedure. This nose also carries out tissue peeling by automatically guiding the tissue being morcellated into the correct position for the cutting sleeve.
A constant gas pressure is important for safe application of the morcellator. Loss of CO2 gas is prevented by two independent seals. A tissue seal allows relatively large pieces of tissue of varying shapes to be handled without loss of gas. An instrument seal prevents gas from escaping if lateral movements are made with the inserted instruments. Additionally, the new seal system also supports the morcellator in a stable position.
The Morce Power Plus can be supplied in three different sizes to allow all interventions in gynecological laparoscopy to be optimally supported. The 12 mm version is particularly suited for removing relatively small amounts of tissue. The 15 and 20 mm versions also permit large amounts of tissue to be morcellated quickly and effectively. All three variants are system compatible and can be used in the same basic system with controller, handle and motor.
