TEM Stereo Telescope from Richard Wolf receives iF Product Design Award 2010 in the category Medicine and Health Care

Knittlingen, December 2009 – The Stereotelescope for Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) from medical instrument manufacturer Richard Wolf received the accolade of the iF Product Design Award 2010 in the category Medicine and Health Care at the end of November 2009. The stereo telescope launched in the marketplace in May 2009 gives the surgeon binocular vision of the operation site in the entire rectum and this provides the user with the graphic, three-dimensional impression of depth required for carrying out precise surgery. The image can also be transferred to an external screen in high-definition quality. The improved vision and the three-dimensional view provided for the surgeon means that the new product makes a significant contribution to patient safety.
“Outstanding illumination of the operating area, autoclavability, avoidance of access trauma for patients and most importantly superb 3D vision were naturally by far the most important criteria for development of this surgical rectoscope. We also asked ourselves why innovative medical technology shouldn’t have an attractive design as well? This award has confirmed that we have mastered the challenge with flying colors,” the message from the jury panel.
The annually awarded iF Product Design Award has enjoyed a reputation as an award granted to good design solutions for products since 1953. An international jury panel of designers evaluates the quality of the design and a number of other factors including the craftsmanship, the level of innovation and the ergonomic design of the product.
